Having invited down the likes of the Hessle Audio lot, NMBRS, Jamie XX to Bugged Out, Hospitality and Cocoon before, In:Motion's line-ups have always impressed. In light of his gig this week, Midland gives us a his latest Top Ten picks of favourite tracks of the moment and why they work for him... MIDLAND TOP TEN 1. Patten - Blush Mosaic - No Pain in Pop This tune is just killer, so off kilter and left, but also works so well. It sounds like Boards of Canada and shed making music. 2. Boddika & Joy.O - Froth Been playing this one every set. Both are excellent producers in their own right so its nice to see them collaborating and it bearing such great fruits. Its such a simple concept done so well. Could/and hope to see people like Villalobos playing this and watching people losing their minds. 3. October & Borai - Left out - BRSTL Jacky, Berlin sounding goodness, with a Bristol sheen, such a great mixing tool. 4. Falty DL - Atlantis - Forthcoming Ninja Tune Falty Dl making some sort of deephouse hybrid. Such a big bassline and just all those trademark flourishes weaving in and out! Much love for this one. 5. Space Dimension Controller - 2257 AD & Flight of the escape vessels - Forthcoming R&S Jack always has had a knack for making music that makes you feel like you are in some far off galaxy (which you'd hope with a name like his) and the arrangements and development of ideas is second to none, when the final kick drum kicks in on FOTEV you cant help but do a little dance in your bedroom! 6. Red Rack'em - Kalimba - Philomena Proper deep house of the highest standard which is pretty much a given from anything Innervisions related. Saw Dixon (who is one of the very best DJs around) drop this at space in ibiza and everyone lost it! 7. Doubleheart - Salsa - Forthcoming Non Plus Neil Landstrumm and JD Twitch (of Optimo fame) making some mutant electroid bass music on non plus!!! Nuff said really. 8. Midland - Placement - Forthcoming Aus The obligatory self inclusion. Just a new tune which i'm really happy with for once, its my attempt not to draw straight for vocals and try and fashion something purely instrumental. Will be coming on a slightly larger ep for aus early next year. 9. Shlohmo - Parties - FoF Music Such a sad piece of music and so great for it. Its the sound of the end of a party when people are passed out, the suns coming out, few people are still soldering on and no one's making much sense. 10. Trevino - Backtracking Marcus Intalex was always one of my very favorite Drum and Bass producers, no surprise then that the housier stuff he is making under his Trevino alias is basically head and shoulders above most stuff coming out at the moment. This one’s weighty, subtle, melancholy and totally amazing.
