Red Bull Music Academy invites the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Toddla T, Hessle Audio and Afrikan Boy for a one-off showcase in the London Eye's 30 capsules
Always at the forefront of plugging the finest in new music, the Red Bull Music Academy's latest venture sees their favourite artists and DJs come together for a one-night showcase, in the unique surroundings of The London Eye. No joke. Besides a six-channel Silent Disco, each of the 30 rotating capsules will be jam-packed with their artists including: Andrew Weatherall, Goldie, Toddla T, Ms Dynamite, the Hessle Audio crew, Jackmaster B2B Deadboy, L-Vis 1990 B2B Bok Bok, Lunice, XXXY, Space Dimension Controller B2B Braiden, Skream & Benga, Shy FX, Beardyman, The 2 Bears, Horse Meat Disco, and Moshi Moshi ft D/R/U/G/S. We speak to Afrikan Boy ahead of Thursday about his future adventures and getting all the other pods jealous.
Dazed Digital: Have you been down to the London Eye before?
Afrikan Boy: I've always wanted to go around the LE but never really managed to find time to do it, so my first experience will be my performance on it which is 100 times better.
DD: What's the weirdest place you've ever performed so far?
Afrikan Boy: I wouldn't say 'weirdest' but it was East Africa (Malawi for the Lake of Stars Festival), the London Eye performance is definitely going to top the list
DD: If you could name the 'night/event' in your pod/capsule, what would you call it?
Afrikan Boy: "The Lagos Eye".
DD: What are you expecting from the night?
Afrikan Boy: I'm expecting 14 people in my pod, who are up for a party. I want people in other pods to be looking at what's going on in my pod, that's how wild I'm going to make it.
DD: What else are you working on at the moment?
Afrikan Boy: Have an EP called "The ABCD" which is ready for release and from that the first single titled Kunta Kinte will drop. I also just dropped a mixtape a month ago "What took you so long?" download at www.afrikanboy.com - now I'm focusing on my album material and il be dropping another mixtape by Christmas!
