London's finest fledgling music venue XOYO celebrates its first birthday with the likes of Jamie xx and Xxxy for a one hell of an x'y weekend
In just one year, London venue XOYO has garnered attention from heavyweight party-throwers like Urban Nerds, Bugged Out, Eat Your Own Ears and Upset the Rhythm to label events from Hessle Audio and R&S - where the likes of Mos Def, Friendly Fires, Gold Panda, Digitalism, Egyptian Hip Hop, to Erol Alkan, Boys Noize, and Joy Orbison have all played within their dark Shoreditch walls. To celebrate, they'll be putting on a double-bill of big name nights this weekend with legends like Jamie xx, Larry Heard, and Juan Atkins headlining. We speak to Saturday's billing, one-to-watch electronic producer Xxxy known for his energetic amalgamations of techno, house and 2-step in superbly catchy tracks like his 'Ordinary Things' and 'Body Movin'.
...your secret talent?
I'm a pretty good cook.
...your worst vice?
Smoking, trying to stop - being in clubs a lot doesn't help.
... your favourite sound?
Detuned square waves
...your favourite website?
The Guardian (boring)
... good for breakfast?
Toasted bagel with cheese and/or meat
...the best thing about where you're from?
Being very close to a park which goes on for miles, great for clearing your head.
...your worst fashion secret?
I had an awful lime green shirt I wore to a party once, fortunately later that night I slipped and cut my chin open; covering my shirt in blood and thankfully consigning it to the bin, never to be spoken of again.
...are you listening to now?
Ace & The Sandman - Let Your Body Talk
If you had to, how would you describe your work?
