“It’s time to slay all day,” our fave vampire slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar said in a recent announcement: Facebook users can delve into the campy, vampiric nostalgia of Buffy on Facebook Watch, the social network’s streaming platform.

Facebook Watch has teamed up with 20th Century Fox to bring back cult classics including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, its spin-off Angel and Firefly, to users in the US – go grab Mr Pointy and the Scooby gang, now.

Buffy, created by Joss Whedon, began in 1997 after the film of the same name debuted in 1992. It ran for seven series, becoming a huge hit with both critical and commercial success and huge numbers of die-hard fans. Angel began in 2004 and ran for five seasons, centring on Angel – the tormented hot vampire with a soul and Buffy’s ex – after he leaves Sunnydale, and the crusade against evil demons and criminals in LA. Some characters from the Buffyverse appear in Angel, and it became a hit of its own. Firefly is an American space Western drama also created by Whedon, which ran from 2002 to 2003. Set in the year 2517, it chronicles the adventures of a young crew on the spaceship Serenity.

A Buffy reboot was announced earlier this year. No casting or major plot details have been revealed just yet, but the reboot will reportedly build on the mythology established in Whedon’s original show, establishing a new world to tackle contemporary social issues, much in the same way the original series did. The role will also reportedly go to a black woman, with a focus on a much more inclusive cast than the original.

Facebook’s head of video, Fidji Simo said that she wanted Facebook’s streaming of cult-classics to allow “avid fan communities to experience them in new ways”, as if friends were coming together to watch them for the first time. As EW reports, Facebook recently expanded its Watch Party feature to all users, meaning that groups of people can watch and react to the shows at the same time. Facebook Watch has also been busy developing original content including a reboot of MTV’s The Real World, and a pranking show with Kim Kardashian, so watch this space.

Buffy-thon watch party began last Friday (November 30), with the Angel watch party beginning on Saturday (December 1). The Firefly livestream began on Sunday (December 2) at 12 pm PT on dedicated Facebook pages. If you’re in the US, you can watch along herehere, and here
