Life lessons from the Fresh Prince are now on YouTube
In December, Will Smith appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to tell his worldwide fanbase they were going to get a sneak peek into the actor’s life via a new Instagram page. It was a hit. Now after taking Instagram by storm it seems the 49-year-old is addicted to smaller-screen exploits than his usual Hollywood releases: he’s now a YouTube vlogger.
Smith's videos mine subjects as diverse as his latest movie Bright, and erm, sex with his first son’s mother. Here’s all the things we learned from his vlogs.
YOU CAN’T SHOCK FANS AT COMIC CON IF YOU’RE WILL SMITH
The first instalment from Will Smith’s fresh YouTube channel comes during the first leg of the Bright promo tour which sees Smith head from Miami, Florida to Sao Paulo, Brazil for Comic Con where he sports an Orc mask from the movie to fool the crowd. Despite the title, fans started to clock on and Smith was left with no choice but to remove the mask and unveil himself to the crowd; being welcomed with a roar of cheers and screams.
WILL’S SON THINKS HE IS A BEAST
Smith’s oldest and less famous son Trey makes several appearances speaking on what it’s like to have Smith as a father. “I think holy shit, I have a lot of issues, but that’s like the pain and pleasure of having a dad that lives in beast mode”.
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER IS REALLY INSPIRATIONAL
“If your movie is only big in America, it doesn’t matter. You’ll be a movie star only when you’re a movie star in every country in the world. You have to travel, you have to go, you have to meet the people”, Smith says, explaining the advice Arnie gave him whilst chewing through a Tikka Masala. He also reminisces about previous press tours with Tom Cruise. Smith mentions that for a good 10 years, himself and Cruise would battle during their press tours to see who could stay on the red carpet longer answering questions, signing autographs, and taking pictures. He did not comment on whether his large donations to Scientology were also part of the dare.
WHERE BABIES COME FROM
Smith talks to Trey about life as a parent, which leads to an awkward conversation about the birds and the bees. There is something slightly odd about asking your 25-year-old son how he “got here” so of course, Trey refuses to answer. At which point Will exclaims: “I had sex with your mother”. The words absolutely no one wants to hear.
IT’S OKAY TO FAIL, GUYS
Those of you that are failing (most of us) can find some solace in Smith's inspirational quotes. “Fail early, fail often, fail forward. It’s always a little bit frustrating to me when people have a negative relationship with failure. Failure is a massive part of being able to be successful. You have to get comfortable with failure, you have to seek failure because failure is where all of the lessons are,” says the multi-millionaire. Thanks, Will! I’ll bear that in mind while I'm eating my ramen noodles.
