About the role:

Dazed Media’s Production Coordinator is responsible for all print and digital workflows for Dazed Magazine (6 issues per year), as well as managing print ads across our three titles. The main objective of the role is to keep the production on track and adhere to workflow, whilst responding to the fast-paced, exciting and unpredictable variables which are a reality for any leading global fashion title. The Production Coordinator will manage schedules, content trafficking, signoff, ad submission and checking, and all file preparation for repro and print. 

There is a huge amount of liaison with printers and repro teams, involving specific technical knowledge, such as the creation of specifications for print specials which need approval by the printer, or checking that copy supplied meets the specified requirements. At the same time, internal communication is key,with a high level of involvement in the day-to-day operation of the Dazed advertising, editorial, photo and fashion departments, to manage and support them in commissioning, chasing and preparing content and assets according to the Production Coordinator’s schedules and technical specifications.

More specific tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Scheduling and managing the weekly editorial meeting, and updating internal workflow documents tracking the status of editorial and fashion content.
  • Managing the digital flat plan in coordination with editorial, fashion, photo and advertising departments.
  • Communicating colour corrections to repro, approving pages and obtaining Art Director sign off.
  • Checking proofs and bag up the magazine ready for press passing.
  • Archiving issues in a consistent way. Generate PDFs and digital assets for marketing/digital teams. Keep the physical and digital archives up to date.
  • Generating an issue PDF for upload to online platforms. Sending out PDFs/magazines and tear sheets to contributors.
  • Assisting with trafficking on AnOther and Another Man.
  • Manage printed stationery and Fashion Week POS.
  • Post-analysis of each issue - evaluating and helping to implement new systems and workflows.

Dazed’s Production Coordinator is the key person in the organisation who keeps track of production status and communicates action that needs to take place to all involved, aligning the entire team with the workload. They create harmony within the team whilst being firm on expectations, ensuring all necessary parties have signed off before proceeding. A successful production is when we manage to get the production out on time and to the standard required.

About you:

You will have truly heroic attention to detail and the ability to organise a vast range and quantity of data over complex timelines. You are personable and approachable, but also tenacious and politely assertive. Your ability to communicate technical aspects will be obvious from your technical experience, but you will also be able to demonstrate communication with all levels of the organisation; you are persuasive rather than confrontational, diplomatic but firm. Your relationships internally are going to be exceedingly important, and a sense of humour is essential, but you will also be able nurture strong relationships with external contacts, such as repro and advertising production houses.

The nature of our business means that there are tight deadlines every 2 months, delivering the production to press on time. You will have a very adaptable working attitude, particularly when accepting that flexibility in hours will occasionally be required.

Your knowledge of technical aspects of print and production should be easily demonstrable, and it would be particularly useful if you have experience of print specials. No doubt you’ll be completely familiar with Adobe Creative Suite. A deep knowledge of the reprographic process would be advantageous. 

You are self-organised, with an ability to multi-task, working methodically and prioritising workload. You’re likely to be highly tech savvy, with a huge aptitude for learning new systems and workflows. There is a certain level of physicality involved in this role, such as cutting out pages and preparing artboards, bagging up issues and packaging, so you will be a practical person who’s not afraid to roll up their sleeves.

Terms: Full time role with competitive salary and pension. 20 days annual leave plus public holidays and 3 additional days at Christmas.

Location: Office located in London WC2.
