Watch the trailer for Queer Eye, Netflix’s reboot of the iconic show

Over a decade later, the groundbreaking series is back

It’s a joyous day for fans of Queer Eye For The Straight Guy: after almost 11 years, a new fab five gang are coming to our screens. Netflix has just dropped a trailer for their reboot of the show, set for a February release.

Back with a whole new crew, the trailer sees them making people’s lives infinitely better, and giving us serious nostalgia in the process. This time, Bobby Berk is the “Design Doctor”; Antoni Porowski is the food and wine connoisseur. The batons of “Culture Vulture” and “Fashion Savant” have been passed on to Karamo Brown and Tan France, while Jonathan Van Ness is the resident grooming guru.

“The original show was fighting for tolerance. Our show is fighting for acceptance,” France says in the show’s voiceover.

According to a statement from Netflix last year, the reimagination of the reboot as a socially-aware show that would “Make America Fabulous Again” was a conscious decision. Back in January, Netflix said: “In a time when America stands divided and the future seems uncertain, a team of five brave men will try to bring us closer together with laughter, heart, and just the right amount of moisturiser.”

The original show, which ran from 2003-2007, was a surprise hit that drew praise for its buoyant cast. Not only did it impact makeover reality show formats but also paved the way for normalizing homosexuality in an evolving society. In a 2013 interview with EW, Logo executive Mark Leonard called Queer Eye the “strongest, if not the first, representation of LGBT people bringing their special talents to the table and making a positive impact in straight people’s lives.”

“We saw these strong, colourful personalities embraced for their unique abilities. This is a markedly different take compared to most prior representations of gays on TV that featured LGBT people living solely in isolated gay worlds,” he said.

All episodes of Queer Eye will be available on Netflix on February 7
