Miuccia Prada take a 50s and 60s turn with striped primary shades and cinched waists

Miuccia Prada is renowned for designing collections that cleverly balance the line between good and bad taste. Her Spring/Summer '11 offering followed a similar route, with a classic silhouette shaken by humorous prints and unexpected details. The show opened with knee-skimming suits and dresses in primary shades of green and orange. There was a nod to 60s mods in the wide stripes and the cropped jackets, while the cinched waists and voluminous sleeves made a subtle reference to the 50s ‘New Look’ fashion. Black humour – another Prada signature – reverberated in the colourful prints, such the yellow and green images of bananas. Alike previous seasons, this summer didn't disappoint on the accessories front either. Bags came in the guise of boxy holdalls and the selection of shoes included woven leather pumps and striped platforms reminiscent of the cult creeper.
