In a flurry of horse and saddle scarfs and ruffled pieces, Donna Karan did what she does best; reinventing classic items into city life approved outfits, equally screaming of glamour and utility. After all, this is her New York line. This time around, at her Greenwich Street show, the fashion veteran re-worked trench coats as dresses, tweaked swim suits with ruffles and invented her very own black and beige floral print. The beige shade was popular all over, often mixed with red and pink. Other colour injections included turquoise and aqua blue. But it was the scarves, sometimes blurring the line between accessory and clothing, which left the strongest impression.
Dazed Digital: What influenced you this season?
Donna Karan: It was all about classics with a twist. I want to make clothes for grounded and strong individuals, fresh out of school, working hard to find a job. They’re ready to be responsible because life isn’t all about frivolous fashion.
DD: What pieces are you happiest about?
Donna Karan: I like the femininity about the floral and ruffle pieces, I like the twist on the classic chinos trousers and I like the scarfs, which are signature DKNY items.
DD: What piece from the collection would you buy for yourself?
