“Sportswear was our starting point, but we wanted to combine it with embroidery and embellishment” said Marni’s creative director Consuelo Castiglioni after the show on Sunday. It started with a series of loose pastel dresses in punched leather, which were followed by striking neon creations complete with scuba seams and mesh panels. Sportswear influences echoed further in the use of raglan sleeves, exposed zippers and cycling shorts that were worn underneath structured dresses. Bold perspex jewellery and leather helmets complimented the quirky look, but it was the large pailettes and embroidery in the panels that brought a surprising twist to the finale.
