The all-American design legend embraced suede and leather for a Wild Wild West inspired Spring Summer collection

Reinventing the wheel isn’t easy, but Ralph Lauren manages most seasons. Without being stuck in a stereotype, the fashion veteran interprets himself twice a year and – in a good season like this one – he manages to bring something exciting to the table. Clearly inspired and influenced by the Wild Wild West and native American culture, Ralph Lauren showed a beautifully light coloured collection. Using suede and leather made sense, and the tied together leather details and frilled suede complimented his aesthetic vision. Most outfits had big buckle belts and the only real colour (everything else appeared in off-white, beige or brown) came in a blue check pattern. The tailored section focused on masculine shapes with loose coats, double-breasted jackets and accessories such as hats and suspenders. When Ralph Lauren did embrace femininity, he did it with floor-length dresses, which also paid its dues to the theme through ruffles, frills and embroideries.
