Greek born Yiorgos Eleftheriades this week launched his stylish Spring Summer collection at Barcelona Fashion Week. Going for a distinct luxe look, he teamed up brown leather shirts with off white bottoms, and grey leather T-shirts with fluid bottoms. Mixing menswear and womenswear, Eleftheriades impressed with laser cut leather pieces, mostly in brown and beige. Shoes and accessories had rope details and for colour injection, citrus and bronze was added. The menswear came slightly 1980’s influenced with rolled up sleeves, big shoulders and cropped tailored jackets. Also the ladies saw variations of the same period theme through jackets sporting folded and over sized lapels.
Dazed Digital: What influenced this collection? Yiorgos Eleftheriades: First of all freedom, the freedom that we need in our time. In the collection that comes out as a mixture of minimalism, clean cuts, architecture, and the trapeze.
DD: Tell us about the colour palette! Yiorgos Eleftheriades: I wanted neutral and cool summer colours but at the same time I mixed in colours like terracotta and black that my homeland Greece inspired me to use…
DD: There was also a that strong citrus shade… Yiorgos Eleftheriades: Yes, I needed to have a small explosion, and for it me it’s the right colour because it’s not yellow, more olive. And it works excellent with the caramel brown!
DD: Was that a laser cut brown leather jacket I saw as well. Yiorgos Eleftheriades: Yeah, it’s laser cut. It was influenced by Art Noveau. It’s about layering ideas. We have another laser cut with small flaps that are inspired by fish scale.
DD: Parts of the menswear felt 1980’s inspired… Yiorgos Eleftheriades: Yes, romanticism combined with fluid tailoring. It’s from the Spandau Ballet period! They are nice shapes for the summer…
DD: Favourite piece in the collection? Yiorgos Eleftheriades: The outfit with silk trousers and cotton silk organza coat. It’s like a big shirt!
