Dazed Digital went backstage to the Ravensbourne Graduate Fashion show to see what the class of 2010 would bring us. From Jean-Charles Castelbajac-esque multi-coloured surreal outfits to more subdued ombre wrapped pieces and monochrome egg-shaped coats, each graduate showed a range of distinctive and desirable creations. Speaking to the students, we find out a little about the inspirations that went into their graduate collections, a little on where they're from and where they'll be giong next.

Masako Kondo
:
How old are you and where are you from?
23, from Japan

What’s the concept behind your collection?
The title of my collection is "singular to plural in movement" some of my inspiration came from blurred photography. I was trying to capture the flow and movement trail of the body within my garments.

Who is your favourite designer?
Hussein Chalayan, Marios Shwab

What kind of fabrics do you use?
In terms of this collection, I mainly used jersey. I generally like to use a lot of kinds of fabrics and combine them together beautifully.

What plans do you have for the future?
I'm trying to get Visa to stay in England first, then hopefully get a job and work for designers who i respect for a while and my final coal is to have my own brand.

Ida Jonsson:
How old are you and where are you from?
I am 22 and from Baerum in Norway.

What’s the concept behind your collection?
My concept is an attempt to define my vision of the modern woman. I see her as someone strong, but at the same time, fragile, strange and a bit awkward. I have tried to portray this through my silhouettes and colour-palette, creating an aesthetic that is beautiful only on the border of disgusting.

Who is your favourite designer?
My favourite designers are Proenza Schouler and Chloé.

What kind of fabrics do you use?
I use a lot of jerseys, silk and wool, mixed with contrasting features such as flock papered cotton and nylons. I like things that have interesting textures and usually my fabrics are very comfortable.

What plans do you have for the future?
At the moment my plans are a trip to New York in August, where I'll try to get as many interviews as possible and then we'll see what happens. I would love to work as a pattern cutter at Calvin Klein or within fashion illustration.

Bobby Abley:

21 years old, London, UK

What’s the concept behind your collection?
'Make Me A Superhero' is the evolution of a personality, nostalgia with a dark side. A fresh twist on pop life.

Who is your favourite designer?
Sorry I have a few that I love equally for different reasons, JCDC/Jeremy Scott/Vivienne Westwood/Peter Jensen...

What kind of fabrics do you use?
I love using fabrics that have a strong catwalk impact like leathers and wools and then covering them in print.

What plans do you have for the future?
I'm already working on a new collection, MA Degree, go back to LA to see my friends at Jeremy Scott... and I really want to go to Legoland and buy a pet tarantula.

Carly Brown:
How old are you and where are you from?
29, from Herfordshire.

What’s the concept behind your collection?
The collection was entitled 'A Split Persona: Masculine & Feminine - The Blurred Line Between'. It was based on the idea of a split personality and which is the real and which is the imaginary. A major part of this was masculinity and femininty encompased within the strong shoulders and the soft, feminine colours and chiffon elements. I wanted people to look at the garments and to see one thing and the relise it is actually something else as with the pleats in the cape for example which appear to be a sleeve at first glance.

Who is your favourite designer?
I love Jil Sander and Lanvin for their tailoring and sophistication and Luella for their use of colour and sense of fun flirtyness.

What kind of fabrics do you use?
I love to use venetian wools and mix them with softer delicate fabics like chiffons.

What plans do you have for the future?
I really want to gain more experience in both pattern cutting and design, im really excited to learn more.
