Models walked on green grass and, initially, to bird song. Their leather hold-alls were filled with baguettes and other picnic must-haves. The first outfits continued the summer theme; green checks dominated on both shorts and tops. Hawaii inspired shirts, floral prints and red checks were often matched with beige bottoms for maximum effect. D&G likes a good T-shirt print, and the standout one from SS ’11 was Johnny Depp’s face in ‘Cry Baby’. But unlike the black biker jacket worn by Depp in the photo, the colour palette of choice for Stefano and Domenico was focused on soft and summery shades. This was perfectly executed in the final segment when a handful of evening jackets in pastel colours paraded down the catwalk. Contrasted with white bottoms, the light pink, blue and yellow jackets summed up the sunny atmosphere in Milan. But make sure you don’t get grass stains on those white trousers when you wear them at the D&G picnic… Escape the algorithm!
