Inspired by the art of Sumi, Onitsuka Tiger present their new Collection for A/W '10

Inspired by Japanese calligraphy, the Sumi collection for Onitsuka Tiger's A/W '10 revolves around the monochrome colour palette. Tiger pays homage to Sumi artwork by reference to Japanese charcoal and black ink, using their black and grey tones with subtle ink drop patterns. For footwear, subtle character graphics meaning 'Tiger' adorns the heel or side of the shoes, and on the Mexico 66, the dot print pattern is a new take on the iconic Onitsuka Tiger stripes alongside the incorporation of rich ‘winter’ fabrics. The A/W '10 apparel collection focuses on the Sumi story
further with pieces that combine high quality materials and contemporary design. Instead of
the brush stroke patterns used in the Spring/Summer range, ink drops
decorate rich poplin and lightweight taffetas, several garments feature
contrasting Onitsuka Tiger stripes.
Meanwhile, the Coolidge Plus collection taking its name from a 1980s US basketball TV show, is actually inspired by the classic basketball designs of the 1970s. It features a narrower profile with new toe and heel reinforcements, whilst the height of the collar has also been updated and a velcro strap on the ankle adds a sporting touch.
