However, Marani wanted to refocus his mainline collection for S/S 10 presenting something scaled-back and concentrated on one idea that isn't restricted by commercial confines. Taking inspiration from Pieter Hugo's haunting photography work in Nigeria 'The Hyena and the Other Men', Marani took the Nigerian traditional dress of tasselled skirts and applied them to his own collection of silk panelled skirts embellished with layers of metallic thread tassels. By pairing them with simple silk t-shirts, the heavily ornate skirts are made contemporary. Marani worked together with Dazed contributor Kacper Kasprzyk in the outskirts of Paris to place these skirts in a more urban setting for this set of images that will have people looking at Marani for more than just easy knitwear pieces.
