Speaking to Sternberg though, it's clear that behind the seemingly straightforward designs, there is always a plethora of influences that make and shape his collections that have garnered supporters like Kirsten Dunst and Jason Schwartzman (both present at the presentation). Dazed Digital: What was the starting point when you began thinking for this collection?Scott Sternberg: It's always about what's exciting you at the time. There were a few things really...I was watching the Jacques Cousteau documentary, Le Monde du Silence. There's this ragged band of outsiders on the beach and you know, they made nautical looked so cool. Then there's this music Then I was listening to Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys, Brian Eno, John Cale etc. Then there's Malibu, Florida of course where this is all set. DD: How do you tie all those things together into a cohesive collection?Scott Sternberg: I'm so focused in terms of what I do. There are shapes etc that my customer requires that I do every season. But then I can really play around with little things whilst having the shapes in mind already. Escape the algorithm!
