Eyes range for the surrealist ladyShareLink copied ✔️August 27, 2009FashionIncomingText Flora Yin-Wong Wham, Bam, Thank You P.A.M. Shauna T and Misha Hollenbach, the duo behind cult Australian label P.A.M. (aka Perks and Mini) have launched their Pop! Eyes collection as a sophisticated excursion from their usual P.A.M. lines. Their studio is continuing to make a distinctive mark on the global scale branching out to followings in Japan, Asia, Europe and the US, infamous for their interpretations of fashion via a warped universe incorporating art, music and all things 'pop'.Ten years on since P.A.M. launched, the designers now unveil this debut collection in 2009-10 inspired by the David Attenborough documentary, The Tribal Eye with a recurring fascination of significant historical moments. The collection attempts to visually merge cultures to create alternative attire for the ladylike woman. Cottons, silks and linen blends are combined with an earthy palette of chocolates and grey to cream, whilst yellow and gold pop out from the signature tribal prints on dresses and contrasted with cropped leather jackets.Meanwhile P.A.M.'s main men's Collection features jackets in high-performance nylon, perforated leather, and waterproof fabrics. Signature shirts with panels of hidden zip pockets, treated 'permanent crease' shirting fabrics featuring practical but innovative tailoring. Surrealist images permeate the collection against dove grey, ultra-blue, and striped hues as well as black and white to portray cold palettes in Art Nouveau geometric graphics. And in comparison the women's line includes bubble denim skirts paired with printed leggings, pastel jerseys and grey printed tees. Graphics often include cut-out eyes and playful figures worn with ruched hoodies and thick-knit cardigans. Often incorporating layers of loose-fit tees and long-sleeve tops with neutral scarves and tartan, lending a young grungey look topped with bobble hats and patterned bumbags, whilst more grown-up is the trapeze-shaped wool coat in tan or black.Dazed Digital: How long have you been designing?Shauna T: About 13 years professionally but I designed and made my clothes in my teens tooDD: How would you describe your own style?Shauna T: Cool comfort dressing with a lil' touch of oddnessDD: Who would you like to see wearing your pieces?Shauna T: Women who are interesting and interested in the non-conventional...DD: What inspires you?Shauna T: Humans - it's totally amazing what they have done.. costumes / customs / ideas...DD: If you weren't a designer what would you be doing?Shauna T: I hope I could live my sideline fantasy of being a short story writer or an adventurer, perhaps I could be both...The first Pop!
