With his debut collection of high quality mens knitwear, young designer Boas Kristjansson has made strides from his previous minimalist womenswear attempts. Now Kristjansson is playing with sculptured shapes and bright colours versus greyscale pieces with his HypoKnitriak S/S 10 Collection, complimented by soft headpieces worn as masks. The new collection consists of oversized cardigans, low-back playsuits and cut-out long-sleeved tees amongst banded wrap-jerseys and long v-necks.

Dazed Digital: How old are you?

Boas Kristjansson: 27

DD: How long have you been designing?
Boas Kristjansson: About four years. One year as 8045.

DD: Where are you based?
Boas Kristjansson: Reykjavik, Iceland

DD: How would you describe your own style?
Boas Kristjansson: Sentimental?

DD: Who would you like to collaborate with?
Boas Kristjansson: I’ve been doing performance, video & photographic collaborations this summer and i’m looking to adding some accessories such as sunglasses to the repertoir of 8045. Adrian Mustelin is an eyewear designer from Barcelona with whom i intend to collaborate.

DD: Who do you have in mind when you design?
Boas Kristjansson: Whoever i'm obsessing about at that particular time i suppose

DD: What inspires you at the moment?
Boas Kristjansson: Nassim Haramein's Unified field theory, Wooden Intarsia, Crystalization, among others.

DD: Who are your favorite designers and why?
Boas Kristjansson: I've had my infatuations, but I must say seeing Bernard Wilhelms show last fashion week was pretty damned great. There's a playful overload to it that lights up your senses. The golden versailles-reminiscent room was perfect for it even though people were fainting and only half of the people with invitations got in. I enjoy the madness of fashion.

DD: Were you interested in fashion while growing up?
Boas Kristjansson: In a way yes. although i wasn't introduced to it until after i was about 20. I'm interested in it for the same reasons i was as a teenager, basically how people are often dominated by their garments, that’s a powerful idea. I only later learned about the esoteric life of the fashionista.

DD: What are the difficulties faced being a designer today?
Boas Kristjansson: I'm beginning to face my challenges as a designer, having just made the transition from being a student, I never felt comfortable in that role. In fact, i believe if you have no prior affiliations to fashion it can be easier to start out with a blank page and be successful.

DD: If you weren't designing, what would you be doing?
Boas Kristjansson: Travelling, writing, surfing, meditating, learning, dancing...

DD: What are your plans for the future?
Boas Kristjansson: Combining the above things into a sustainable lifestyle.

DD: Can we buy your collection?
Boas Kristjansson: If you say please. And next summer in selected shops globally.
