Raf Simons turns Stan Smiths into vintage sneakers for new collab

The new styles drop as part of the designer’s ongoing adidas partnership

After presenting this AW19 collection in Paris last night – more on that here – Raf Simons has returned with three new styles of the RS Stan for his ongoing adidas collaboration.

Pre-launching today at Paris fashion boutique Tom Greyhound, Simons used archive sneakers from 1984 to 1992 as the inspiration for the new styles, employing advanced technologies to 3D print them onto the RS Stan Smith. Reimagining the past, to come up with new styles for the future.

Creases and stains, among other details, from the original shoes can be found on the new designs – quite literally bringing the old back to life. Inspired by the painting technique trompe l’oeil (which translates as ‘deceive the eye’), the shoes are a perfect merge of vintage styles and modern techniques. With one pair having the deception of appearing to be hand painted, the printing technique creates somewhat of an optical illusion on the sole of the shoe.

While the collection is only available for global release in April, there is an installation at Tom Greyhound for those who want to get their hands on the release early.
