If you’re a fan of sharp graphics and animal behaviour then it’s time to take note of new Bristol based t-shirt label, Grizzly Nights. Created by partners Emily Munday and Ellie Coates (their combined talents include DJ, graphic designer and illustrator) the brand prides itself on its hand-printed tees that act as a visual feast for the young and hip. And they’d know, Emily is the creator of Bristol’s hottest indie/electro night Wonky and it’s how the MTV generation work the dance floor that inspires them too.  ‘Our way of working is simple, we just want to create decent t-shirts that people can wear and style how they want’ the duo explains. With national stockists and an international fan base to boot, Grizzly Nights is well worth a look in.

Name a person or organisation that shares your DIY ethos, and explain why.

We respect any brand that made things with practically no money in its pocket and no experience. We had no training in hand printing so we taught ourselves nor did we have any knowledge of how the fashion industry works but that didn't stop us. Any brand who has a little dream and didn't let small things stand in its way is a brand we can relate to.

Do you think the recession has helped or hindered your creativity? Why?
We started a company during the recession so we've never known any different. Budgets have always been tight as we're a small business right now so we make it work in our own way and that's how we like it. We don't need a big budget to do what we do and luckily we've found a base of loyal customers.

Music for a revolution - what song sums up your attitude?
‘Bag it Up’ by Geri Halliwell. It's direct and to the point. And cheeky.

What other period inspires you the most, and why?
We've always found the 90s inspiring. It was the colour of the whole decade, especially the music. There's something quite naff but cool about the 90s that still makes it relevant today.
