Hailing from the small town of Wamel, in the middle of Holland, 25 year old womenswear talent Iris van Herpen relocated to Arnhem learn her craft and in doing so has made herself a staple on the fashion scene here. Having already interned with McQueen, she’s set to show during Septembers London Fashion Week. Her work is bold mixture of dark and fragile along with her effortlessly cool persona, we should expect great things from this girl of the moment whose 'Refinery Smoke' collection we have already featured.

DD: Talk us through the inspiration behind your pieces on show at Arnhem
Iris Van Herpen: It’s inspired by mummification- not directly mummies obviously as that wouldn’t work- but the pieces are from the same influences behind my Autumn Winter collection. I looked to the Egyptians and there way of life and teamed this with my love for working with leather. Leather to me is special because it’s timeless, it always has the same quality and seems to have its own personality.

DD: Tell us about your design process and how you work with each collection
Iris Van Herpen: For me, it’s about teaching myself something new with each collection. I like to learn new techniques all the time and I love to teach myself so that’s what it’s all about for me. I want my forms and silhouettes to change all the time so that nobody really knows what to expect, not even me.

DD: Are you excited about making the move from Arnhem to London?
Iris Van Herpen: I am. Arnhem is a fantastic place and this is where I studied so it’s to me but I’m ready for a new challenge and I’m well aware that London is going to be just that and I hope my work will translate well there and receive the same praise it does here.
