Marc Jacobs is judging on ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ season 8

Gigi Hadid and Debbie Harry have also been announced as guest judges

Just a month after casting RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni Milk (AKA Dan Donigan) for his SS16 campaignMarc Jacobs is continuing to demonstrate his love for the franchise by appearing as a guest judge on its upcoming eighth season.

Jacobs is listed amongst a slew of other high-profile names in an exclusive trailer recently premiered on Logo TV (unfortunately unavailable for viewing in the UK), including Instagram ‘It’ model Gigi Hadid, frontwoman of Blondie Debbie Harry, reality TV star turned fashion designer Nicola Richie and model Chanel Iman.

The announcement of these guest judges comes as RuPaul’s Drag Race nears its 100th episode and with it, its 100th queen. Since it was premiered in the US in 2009, the show has been credited with bringing drag culture into the mainstream.

The fashion credentials of the guest line-up are emblematic of the industry’s growing affiliation with the drag community. Just last month, fellow Drag Race alumni Violet Chachki featured in an editorial for Vogue Italia, lensed by the iconic Steven Klein. Jacobs himself is another key reason for drag’s newfound mainstream success, presenting the David Sims-lensed campaign image of Milk alongside a lengthy caption crediting the queen’s “unique, artistic drag sensibility”.
