Hedi Slimane has discovered a new muse for his ongoing Saint Laurent Music Project: 67-year-old singer-songwriter Marianne Faithfull.
The British star follows musicians including Marilyn Manson, Courtney Love and Kim Gordon, who have all fronted the campaign. The Saint Laurent Music Project cherrypicks seminal rock stars, dresses them in timeless pieces from the Saint Laurent collection, and offers the artist the chance to soundtrack Saint Laurent runway shows. The partnership with the French fashion house makes sense: despite approaching 70, Faithfull retains a glamour that eludes many half her age.
Like other Saint Laurent faces, including Girls's Christopher Owens and Marilyn Manson, Faithfull is no stranger to the world of rock'n'roll hedonism. Better known for her relationship with Mick Jagger, she was a prolific musician in her own right – her debut single "As Tears Go By" was a chart success, though her creative output declined as she spiralled into drug addiction in the 70s.
But Faithfull eventually turned her life around: in the 90s and 2000s, she released a series of albums to critical acclaim. Last June, she performed at a sold-out concert in London – and as the images shot by Slimane prove, the 60s icon still has the magnetism or a rock star in her prime.
