It's not every day you see a fashion designer take a shower while engaging you in a lengthy conversation about vegetarianism, but Vivienne Westwood isn't most designers. Ahead of World Water Day on 22 March, the designer has filmed a video for PETA about how the meat industry is depleting the world's water supplies.
"I am an eco-warrior, but I take long showers with a clean conscience because I'm vegetarian," Dame Westwood says, going on to explain how rivers are diverted in order to make way for livestock factories and crops grown to feed them. "By avoiding meat, you do more for the environment than recycling or driving a hybrid car."
Westwood is well-known for ongoing commitment to political causes: as a long-standing founder of the Climate Revolution movement and an outspoken anti-fracking activist, she's probably the most illustrious enfant terrible in fashion.
