Every day this week, we will be breaking down the womenswear SS14 collections through a series of retrospective articles. From our top ten soundtracks to our five-point guide to fashion week selfies, follow #afterthestorm for the Dazed fashion team's take on the new collections.

Catwalk sets can lift a collection to a theatre performance, providing a stage that evokes a certain mood, reflects a theme or print, or simply exudes luxury. From Givenchy's car crash set, to Dior's surreal flora forest, here are our top ten sets of womenswear SS14.

A forest of surreal tropical fauna, wisteria and birds of paradise flowers.

A smoking car crash that filled the centre of the space, and seemed to pulsate throughout the show as if alive.

Kitsch animal-print wallpaper with glass bottle chandeliers hanging over the space, and show goers invited to sit in minimal sixties armchairs.

A bank of bright art murals depicting themes of femininity and power. Created by muralists Miles ‘El Mac’ Gregor, Mesa, Gabriel Specter, and Stinkfish, and illustrators Jeanne Detallante and Pierre Mornet as part of their ‘In the heart of the Multitude’ project.

A geometric set created by cubed cages which intersected the catwalk.

A large slatted wooden box-like set and primary coloured metal stools.

Models appeared from behind a barrier of rain, while the catwalk was dotted with pulsating speakers covered with a film of water.

A stale secret garden, with grey trellises flanking the runway and dead roses scattered on the floor.

A hypnotic neon light installation transformed the runway into graphic shapes before the show.

Karl's very own art gallery filled with Chanel artworks: quilted sculpture, No.5 perfume robots and a nude girl mannequin lying on a plinth and wearing white socks, called ‘New Narcissus.’
