Marni SS14

Enjoying the silence, as sound failure makes for concentrated appreciation at Marni

TextSusie LauPhotographyLea Colombo

Initial reaction:

Blossoming spring in sporty speed.

Spring's fresh blooms and the ease of sportswear – a prevailing theme of SS14.

Stand out pieces:

The tulle petal covered baseball jacket and cascades of ruffles on the front of full-skirted dresses.

Unexpected details:

The elegant folds and deep turn-up hems of super-wide trousers, and slipped skirts revealing a sliver of waist and the tops of underwear.

Most likely to:

Cruise through a cherry blossom lined avenue, while riding a skateboard.

Least likely to:

Deter the Marni diehards, especially with the abstracted bird and blossom graphic print.

Best visors of the season thus far - curved and bejewelled - and Japanese geta-esque platform sandals.

Viral moment:

A technological glitch meant that there was no sound and no lights. Models walked without a soundtrack and show goers contemplated the collection in silence.

Only the photographer's pit camera clicks and spontaneous applause for the models who walked to the rhythm of their head.

Left us wanting:

To see more shows in silence. The audience were less distracted and concentrated on the main event - the clothes.
