On a fascinating set of revolving mirrored panels (hinted at by the shard of glass on the invites), Raf Simon’s A/W 09 collection gave further proof that he is the most modern, forward thinking menswear designer working today. The austere, pin sharp tailoring that opened the show echoed the season’s mood for sobriety in times of financial meltdown, but soon the suits became two tone and cutout parts made of neoprene were added, lending a superhuman dimension to proceedings. Simons also bucked the trend of sombre colours by injecting neon pink, aqua blue into his palette. With this collection, Simons achieved the perfect balance between creating desirable pieces and provoking thought.
