Graphic prints and relaxed silhouettes
Playing it cool with graphic prints, denim and laidback silhouettes, Kenzo was taking inspiration from the western world this season. Not a tiger face in sight, the collection was a wash of navy, cobalt and sea blue. Designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim stole the style from the surfer scene, laying tee-shirts over long sleeve tops teamed with surf shorts. The models were separated by colour scheme, after the waves of blue followed red and white, finishing with a sketch of black and white graffiti looks. The idea of ‘New Wave,’ was one the design duo was determined to get across quite literally, as the slogan was evident on knitwear and shoes. A subtler approach was also visible with wave prints that appeared hand drawn on trousers, jackets and tops which gave a nod to the design duo’s Californian reference, as it captured the calm and casual attitude of the West Coast.
