Following Edie Campbell, Cara Delevingne takes the mantle at the face of Pepe Jeans' SS13 campaign, spearheading the celebration of their 40th anniversary alongside Mia Goth and Jeremy Young. Part of the brand’s ongoing celebration of London, this season taking in Notting Hill and Portobello, we caught up with fashion’s favourite facepuller following her shoot. Told off by none other than Azaelia Banks, and with a curious penchant for martyrs and Marvin Gaye, Cara just wants to entertain you.
DD: What’s your favourite type of jeans from the SS13 Pepe collection?
Cara Delevingne: I like all the skinny jeans in different colours, especially in pale blue. [Campaign photographer] Josh Olins was brilliant and lovely. I loved the whole team, they were all brilliant.
DD: You're a strong young woman. What’s the best advice someone has ever given you?
Cara Delevingne: Azealia told me to keep my mouth shut, to just get on with things, and finish the job.
DD: You’re the sex bomb on the runway and the funniest girl on the planet backstage. Are you really this way or do you play different characters?
Cara Delevingne: I’m still very young and changing all the time. I am learning and growing, and it depends on how I feel. Sometimes I am the sex bomb, but most of the time, I’m the funny girl. Since I was young I’ve wanted to entertain people, so no matter what I’m doing I’m always going to be the entertainer. I always like to have fun.
DD: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Cara Delevingne: Living on a deserted island catching fish and growing vegetables… with a couple of albums and movies under my belt!
DD: If you could choose a century to live in, which one would it be, and which role would you like to play in it?
Cara Delevingne: Coco Chanel, Cleopatra, Mary Queen of Scots (without the beheading), or Joan of Arc. I would love to play all of them in films.
DD: Do you sing in the shower? Who's your favourite band at the moment?
Cara Delevingne: Rihanna, Azealea Banks. Also, a lot of my friends are great musicians. And I love Al Green, Marvin Gaye, and Lauryn Hill.
