Mary Katrantzou is the creative invited by London's Design Museum this year to realise its Christmas tree. Incorporating pattern from Katrantzou's AW12 collection, inspired by everyday objects, the tree is realised not like a shopping-mall centrepiece but instead as a 2D design on the museum's outer wall, as a flat nod her print origins.

"The print was inspired by formal gardens and artful box parterres," the designer explains. "These were layered and overlaid to create an intricate maze-like print reminiscent of a hand embroidered lace motif."

The NEWGEN designer's AW12 collection embroidery was realised by French house Lésage, the finest studio of its kind in the world, called upon by all the couture houses. How to amplify that? Add a good dose of Swarovski for effect.
