Fashion / InsiderInsider Access: Karen Langley – NYC Day FourLiberty Ross and shaking things up with a younger, sportier attitudeShareLink copied ✔️September 10, 2012FashionInsiderPhotography Mark Reay Text Dazed Digital Karen Langley, Dazed & Confused's fashion director, checks in about her New York experience, ahead of the catwalks she's styling in London...Dazed Digital: How was your Sunday?Karen Langley: Victoria Beckham was nice. Beautifully made and I liked Magdalena and Aymeline's looks in particular, sculpting the body. It was surprising the (flat) shoes that came out of a Victoria Beckham and Manolo Blahnik collaboration, that was really clever. The whole collection is so well made, even if it's not your cup of tea you can't criticise her, she's put herself in an amazing situation. She knows she's in a vulnernable position and it's genius that she can be doing a Spice Girls reunion at the closing Olympics ceremony one week then putting out a collection styled by Joe McKenna in the beautiful setting of the New York City Library. She's done things the right way, taking baby steps, making it personal and waiting to do a catwalk show.I thought the denim pieces at DKNY were cool, it looked a bit younger and sportier which I think is good. It was clothing for the New York woman but what I liked about it was it was kind of New York does BOY London. At Y-3, I was very happy to be sitting next to ASAP rocky. I love Yohji, he can do no wrong, he's a living legend and does a great job. Then I had to rush to the airport which was a shame. I missed the 10th anniversary parties for both Y-3 and Opening Ceremony. I'm sure I'd have had a lot of fun.DD: What was your best moment?Karen Langley: I loved Liberty Ross walking for Alexander Wang and looking amazing. I also liked being smug and guessing the finale would be glow in the dark – as soon as the announcement said 'no flash photography' I got it!DD: You're waiting to fly back to London and prep London Fashion Week. What are you looking forward to?Karen Langley: I'm looking forward to working on the two shows I'm doing. Lucas [Nascimento] looks beautiful, it's really exciting. And with Todd [Lynn] so far I've seen the toiles and shapes. They both look like they're gonna be goodies. Escape the algorithm!
