Pascal Bonvie hit the big time as Prada look 3, from the Italian label's landmark A/W12 show, which also cast actors Gary Oldman, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Bell and Adrien Brody in a parody of power. Since then Bonvie has appeared on catwalks for the likes of Louis Vuitton, Richard Chai, Jil Sander and Kenzo. Dazed Digital caught up with Bonvie as Paris, and the entire menswear S/S13 season, closed...
Dazed Digital: How did you get scouted?
Pascal Bonvie: I'm from a small town close to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. I got scouted whilst shopping (sounds cliché I know). The very first show I did was actually a show for Levi's in Amsterdam. I didn't know what was going on, and was quite nervous. But if I compare it to shows in Milan and Paris etc now, it was peanuts!
DD: What shows did you walk over Milan and Paris this season?
Pascal Bonvie: I walked Jil Sander, Z Zegna, Iceberg and Carven in Milan/Florence. In Paris, Christian Lacroix, Louis Vuitton, Dries Van Noten, Mihara Yasuhiro, Wooyoungmi, Acne, Philip Lim, Kenzo and Damir Doma. What I like about the shows is hanging around with the other models and the diversity of the shows. No two shows are the same.
DD: How was this weekend? Any funny experiences?
Pascal Bonvie: I think that weekend must have been one of the busiest that I've had. I had to rush over from one show to the next, but because of a parade the main streets were closed off. So I sat on the back of a motorbike (with a driver) dodging cars on the highway around Paris. The driver kept putting his hand up apologetically whenever he cut a car off so you can imagine I was holding on for dear life.
DD: What was your favourite thing you wore?
Pascal Bonvie: At Wooyoungmi I remember there was a checkered suit that I really liked.
DD: What was the best soundtrack?
Pascal Bonvie: At Z Zegna they had an amazing remix of Snoop Dogg's 'Drop It Like It's Hot'. Was almost busting out moves on the catwalk. Not that I have any unfortunately.
DD: Tell us what a typical day is like during fashion week...
Pascal Bonvie: You wake up, you run, you walk, you eat, you sleep. Repeat.
DD: Modelling involves a lot of waiting around. How do you keep yourself from being bored?
Pascal Bonvie: I always bring my iPad to castings. I can write, read, surf the web and listen to music. I'm so thankful for that thing.
DD: What are you doing when you're not modelling?
Pascal Bonvie: I studied video before I did modelling. So in my downtime I try and come up with stories to shoot. I also started working for a new Dutch lifestyle magazine, where I shoot all sorts of video; from fashion film to interviews. I actually quite like shooting fashion film.
DD: Tell us something we wouldn't expect of you...
Pascal Bonvie: I'm quite the (videogame) nerd.
