Started by Massimo Osti as a fabric research lab in Bologna, the brand has for three decades dedicated itself to developing new and exciting materials. People going to the Pitti expo in Florence were perhaps not in the mood for outerwear jackets - it's 35 degrees Celsius here - but no one could resist walking around feeling all the pieces, wishing they owned at least one of the goodies on display. Set in the grandiose Stazione Leopolda, Stone Island and its current CEO, Carlo Rivetti, had worked with long-time stylist collaborators Simon Foxton and Nick Griffiths on creating a complete retrospective of Stone Island's most proud moments. Jackets and coats in all shapes and forms - over 200 of them - featured throughout the exhibition space. Imagine a high tech fabric, and Stone Island's already been there: liquid reflective, nylon metals and techno mesh materials - they were all on display. Here's to another 30 years of Stone Island!
