Any colour, as long as it's black – Raf Simons' sublime final collection for the Italian brand

The Jil Sander man for A/W12 wears leather gloves and takes his lunch to work in an upcycled version of a paper bag... Or is it his lunch? Raf Simons' pitch-black protagonist for this season is as ambiguous as it gets.

What turned out to be the Belgian's menswear swansong for the German-via-Italian brand went on to encapsulate the uneasy mood of the season. Slick, tense and foreboding with full-length shiny black macs, these were the clothes of the young executive – or banker's – revenge, charging through a graffitied door and down the rubber runway. A glorious sensory overload when, in fact, all the elements together evoked anxiety and the heaviest of semiotics.

Here, Dazed Digital presents an exclusive behind-the-scenes film of the collection, which was presented in Milan during the January menswear shows.
