The Menswear shows for Spring/Summer 07 were rife with techno fabrics and futuristic influences, paying homage to designers of the 1960's such as Courreges and Pierre Cardin. Where you would usually expect to see ornate, ultra designed creations they have been replaced with stripped down, futuristic cuts in modern, man made fabrics, space age metallics and acidic block colors.

One collection that encapsulated this trend was the second season of the newly revived Thierry Mugler Homme. Championed by Thomas Engleheart, he has created a futuristic collision of sequined, Star Trek inspired jumpers, militant, metallic leather shirts, fitted trousers, structured jackets and suits and Lycra two pieces, creating a kind of second skin. Since the beginning, Thierry Mugler has created his own unique place in the fashion universe and with Thomas Englehart’s new vision, largely inspired by American science fiction "comics" from the Fifties & Sixties, the silhouette often appears nonconformist and sexy, creating an image of an intergalactic 'super hero'. This unexpected collection of sensual fabrics and a kaleidoscopic fusion of metallic blue, orange and yellow combine together for a resolutely modern look.
