Early on we talked about having some looks very literal to the characters in the book; model Egle in look number 12 came from a picture of a girl called Tara in a striped shirt and beach towel from the book Theatre of Manners. This went as far as casting Egle and fitting her in that look, for her likeness to Tara.
With the styling, we explored details like playing around with different ways of wearing a jumper tied around the body, drawn from some of the characters wearing it over their shoulders.
Eva Helene's hairpiece in the final outfit came from one picture of Tina Barney's sister Jill where it looks like the flowers are sprouting from her hair; after talking through many options of how we could fix the flowers, it was achieved using a coathanger.
The whole process was pretty calm and organised, no traumas or major dramas. It was inspiring to follow the process and see how Peter translated details from Tina Barney's work into his designs, adding his unique twist. It was great to be a part of it.
