Gerlan Marcel is a Brooklyn based designer with a lot to say. This collection is from her graduate show at Central Saint Martins entitled what 'What Makes A Legend Most?' inspired by Dolly Parton's "Coat of Many Colors" and Totem Animals. She has just moved to New York, via Los Angeles, where he had the pleasure of spending five seasons doing prints for Jeremy Scott. She is currently working on a project with Pat Fields and "loving everything about the streets of New York".

Since I was a teen drawing babes in my notebooks.

How would you describe your designs?

Zulu nation meets Dolly Parton at Pee Wee's Playhouse.

What inspires you?

Unauthorized biographies, wearable art, ethnic clothing, Tammy Faye Baker, Mini Mouse, Fulton Mall in Brooklyn, the New York picture library, Totem Poles, Hearst Castle, Keith Haring and Trina.

What was the last thing you saw that really inspired you?

The movie, Times Square.

What have you been doing since you graduated?

The ultimate pleasure of designing five seasons of prints for the legendary House of Jeremy Scott and loving the streets of LA. Currently loving the streets of New York, working on prints for Patricia Field, and designing "wearables" for Coach.

Are you designing a new collection?

Yes - bring in the clowns.

How would you describe your style?

Palm Springs Cache.

Are you involved in any outside projects in other fields?

Doing a jewelery line for Noir NYC, creating a line of designer imposter fragrences.

Who are your favorite designers and why?

Jean Charles Castelbajac, Kansai Yamamoto, and Patrick Kelley, for their contribution to the less serious side of fashion.

What are your plans for the future

To build my own print studio, to get my real estate license, to take a road trip to Dollyworld.
