Fashion / ShowIsabel Marant Womenswear A/W12A Western trip for the Isabel Marant girl this seasonShareLink copied ✔️March 3, 2012FashionShowPhotography Morgan O'Donovan Text Susie Lau Isabel Marant Womenswear A/W12 There’s something incredibly assured about Isabel Marant and her aesthetic that you can close your eyes and see the girl with her just-rolled-out-of-bed hair and minimal make-up with hands in the pockets of skinny trousers, strutting about nonchalantly. That’s the attitude that has given way to a fervent Marant fanbase. She also seems to have a knack for turning the naff into new, or at the very least refreshed as she honed in on a Western frontier theme that resulted in embroidered yoked shirts, skinny trousers with gaucho curl patterns and cowboy boots. She worked elements of Little House on the Prairie into Edwardian lace dresses and casual shirts. Laser-cut leather and studded mini dresses created the harder and more decorative pieces in the collection. Still, the silhouette hardly wavered from her tried and tested cropped skinny trouser, the tucked in shirt and pointy pumps as well as a sprinkling of those quilted jackets and satin bombers. Marant gets away with simply changing up the motif because she’s well aware of what her girl wants from an Isabel Marant piece of clothing. Everything has to look like there was minimal effort involved in an ensemble, which is why Marant didn’t try to fix something that clearly wasn’t broken. Escape the algorithm!
