Bruno Pieter's SS09 collection may have been dedicated to Pierre Cardin but it was less about shocking people with bubble dresses and space age experimention but rather it was a celebration of Pieters' unique cutting trump card. The soundtrack was a sampled mix of Gershwin's Summertime and likewise, classic 30s' and 40s' shapes were played around in black and white, leaving the tailoring to do the talking. It was an oxymoron of soft and sharp as boxy shoulders would then flow out into longer skirts or curve out into the back in the minidresses. Painted brushstroke eyebrows accentuated the strength in the clothes. Where Cardin comes into play is in the choice of shiny textured fabrics and stiff silks. Summertime according to Pieters is not looking like a carefree one if the clothes are anything to go by, at least women will come marching out looking sharp and accomplishing whilst retaining mystery and complexity.
