Yesterday Louis Vuitton put its 2012 Cruise collection on display in a grass decorated Churchill House press room. True to form, this was a beautifully crafted and stylish capsule collection from Marc Jacobs. Bridging the two main shows of the year, the cruise line has less pressure on it to impress from the catwalk - instead the designs can be worked on to smoothly function as a natural replenishment to both spring and autumn wardrobes. In this case we saw a Paris-obsessed collection inspired by Sofia Coppola. Imagine an effortlessly cool girl in the French capital, smoking and lounging at cafes with a cocktail in one hand and a LV monogrammed clutch bag in the other...

Leather was big, and it came in black, white and navy blue - often perforated - as jackes, skirts and T-shirts. Also the classic brown LV monogram bags were treated with small holes all over, a nice and modern interpretation of a classic. The Paris theme was illustrated, quite literally, by skyline views and the Eiffel tower drawings on dresses and bags. Pleated dresses and red cashmere cardigans impressed, turquoise snake skin shorts and blue zebra prints surprised. Clever lace tops were merged with the LV logos, mixing craftsmanship with desirable details.
