Two views on Louise Goldin's S/S 09 show:

The girls in Louise Goldin's SS09 show walked past me looking prepared for a very sophisticated, galactic, space age battle. In a uniform of cold whites, nudes, greys and icy blues, and moulded pieces, akin to protective armour this collection was definitely a force to be reckoned with. Goldin cleverly created this cosmos inspired collection with a very literal approach. Patterns formed from geographical, sensory studies of the earth’s surface were included throughout, used in subtle, overlayed screen prints, whist also inspiring the knitting pattern and technique itself.

Goldin has explored the body proportions, creating a new silhouette with her moulded breast cups, padded shoulders and extended hips whilst still creating very beautiful feminine garments, notably a sheer catsuit with perfectly placed Swarovski crystals. Powerful visionary pieces that are beautifully serene and elegant this is surely going to be a significant spring time success.

Rushing through peak hour London commuters and keen fashionistas, I make it to Louise Goldin in time to catch a sneaky peak backstage before the much anticipated show. All hands were on deck as models move from the vast makeup and hair quarters to get changed into the delicate fabrics of S/S 09. In the words of the stylist Jay Massacret, this collection is all about the ‘ice princess’.

Indeed it was, as each girl emerged onto the catwalk in a palette of creams, egg shell blue, pale grey and lilac all with hair pulled tightly back in a bun with a frosty glaze and a coat of silvery blue on the eyes. Looks varied from sheer body tubes to high waisted leggings, to jumpsuits delicately decorated in Swarovski crystals mixed with the strong abstract shapes we love Louise so much for.
