Fashion / OverdoseDazed Overdose Mon 15th Sept: Katie ShillingfordFairytales and fantasies all round at Marios Schwab and Temperley and a gypsy English summer at Paul Smith.ShareLink copied ✔️September 16, 2008FashionOverdoseText Katie Shillingford Today’s Marios Schwab show conjured up visions of Pocahontas in all shades of suede complete with moccasin high heels. Angular, metallic straps and laser cut out, geometric patterns brought a futuristic twist which culminated with a string of space age silver dresses that finished the show. The highlight for me was the chunky bronze rope jewellery in anklets and the open legged jumpsuit. For me the Marios Schwab S/S09 woman was a cross between the Childlike Empress from The Never Ending Story and a crazed Sigourney Weaver in 1984’s Ghostbusters. At Temperley, a horde of celebrities were sitting front row including Mischa Barton who was sat next to Simon Le Bon. Again, characters from a fantasy fairytale were conjured up with ornate glass and beaded crowns. The collection was a fusion of styles mixing 20s' cloche hats, punk accessories, gladiator sandels, clowny ruffs and frills to Aladdin pants and chainmail made from popper fastenings. The girls at Paul Smith looked as if they’d just got out the pool, with dripping wet hair, the show began with a Bangla version of Billie Jean. This soundtrack suited the English Summer meets ethnic mood of the collection, which managed to incorporate a traditional rose print on gypsy maidens dressed in full petticoats, turbans and long white night dresses worn with boxy jackets. It was great to see one of my favourite new girls, Imogen working the catwalk. Escape the algorithm! Get The DropEmail address SIGN UP Get must-see stories direct to your inbox every weekday.
