Barbara and Lucia Croce have unveiled their debut Pre Fall collection for Vionnet, a house once based on its master Madeleine's idea that "When a woman smiles, her dress should smile with her". Indeed, its fluidity, femininity and the brand's primordial cuts that underpin the collection where, as Vionnet's signature trait, fabric is given the leading role.
From 3D jacquards, dense wool, supple leather and fur and the classic crêpes and georgettes, the collection is complete with intarsia decorative motifs, sharp-shouldered outerwear, modern draping, ruffled peplums and evening wear that explores the tension between the timeless masculinity of the smoking to the elongated femininity of the goddess gown. The reintroduced 1919 logo, embossed on the handbags of the new Vionnet woman, is the final touch that ties everything together - and a sign that the old master is still watching over.
