Timber time

Begüm Sekendiz Boré is a visual artist and writer based in Paris, cross-referencing fashion with ideas from fine art and contemporary culture to create new dialogues. Again & Again collects original works by the French artist on the fashion weeks and beyond. 

Minimalist painter Robert Mangold and recent London menswear designer Jonathan Saunders are like mortise and tenon. Jonathan Saunders, the tenon is cut to fit the mortise hole exactly, and usually has shoulders that seat when the joint fully enters the mortise hole. The joint may be glued, pinned, or wedged to lock it in place.

Imi Knoebel is the purveyor of timber frames for Craig Green; timber-framing is the method of crafting framed structure of heavy timber, jointed together with pegged mortise and tenon joints. Diagonal bracing is used to prevent lean and racking in a timber frame home or structure.

Kiki Smith is Richard Nicoll's connecting flight heading towards Casely-Hayford: Before becoming timber planes, timbers used to be tree barks sometimes covered with whitewash lichen. Robert Ryman's paintings resemble lichen. And sometimes linen.

And judging by the already iced-up faces by Michael Borrëmans and Alexander McQueen, timber planes are soon to be transformed into snow-clad timber panels at JW Anderson - hence the boys carrying circular saws or Jean Paul Gaultier vinyls.
