First of all, I didn't direct this video, nor did I direct the ants. I found footage from a crazy old Saul Bass movie, thought it would work with the track, did a very rough edit in Quicktime (!!), threw it on Youtube and before I knew it I was world famous and the video had been viewed 14,613 times. The ZZT project was originally codenamed 'Insect Attitude', so I won't even take credit for the insect thing. So... why should you still be reading the words of a fraud director??? Hmmm... You may know me as 'Lord of the Marionette' - I directed and choreographed the video for Tiga's 'Hot in Herre', which, in all modesty, is a damned fine piece of urban puppet expression and, despite it's flaws, I am thoroughly proud of it. I did the 'Louder Than A Bomb' video, which I'm less proud of, but I watched it once on acid and it was actually a good vibe, so I feel ok about it. I also recently developed a visual show for the Turbo Europa tour... that's right... I VJ'd... dropped all my pride to rock the world's dorkiest profession... and here's a wild concept: I'm also a 'DJ' !!! and I work for Turbo Recordings. Anyways... 'Lower State of Consciousness' has a crazed, buzzing energy to it. I had two ideas for how to put that into a video. One had to do with zombie-teenagers with cellphones and computers, seizure dancing and zapping each other through facebook and videochats and stupid shit like that. The other was ants. In case you don't know, ants rule the world. They make up around 20% of the world's living biomass, there are over 12000 species, they're fucking strong, they never get tired, they look dope, they're fucking organized, and there are more of them than there are of any living thing on this planet. So, this video is giving props to the ants... But this ain't no joke... there's some deep shit here. The ant holocaust = our destruction of nature, and in combining this vision, a violent attack on the balance of nature, with the sonic mayhem of modern cyber-youth culture, I hope to awaken consciousness to save life as we know it. Anyways, no matter what we do to our world, after all the lions are gone and we're walking around in radiation suits, the ants are still going to be doing their thing. To quote the Simpsons' Kent Brockman: "One thing is for certain: there is no stopping them; the ants will soon be here. And I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords." www.myspace.com/vonparty Escape the algorithm! Get The DropEmail address SIGN UP Get must-see stories direct to your inbox every weekday.
