It's a rainy afternoon outside b Store, but owners Kirk Beattie and Matt Murphy are in fine fettle. "It's nice to have some bright things in the window, it feels like summer's finally here," says Murphy, as a family of hand-made toy zebras stares out on to a drizzly Saville Row and neon-hued pom-poms assault the eyes from every angle.

It's part of their new in-store exhibition, Craftwork. Founded in 2007 by fashion designer Caroline Smithson and architect Mehrnoosh Khadivi, the project initially began as a craft evening, with attendees teaching each other different creative skills, with the aim of producing decorative work using hands and simple tools. It's a self-styled "back to basics" mood that's a refreshing addition to the slick, but deliberately off-centre, b Store space.

So dominating the shop is a metal swing seat, threaded with neon fabric and decorated with multicoloured pom-poms. (It's already found a home with a high-profile buyer- look for this a restaurant near you soon...) The pom-poms find their place on a cardboard bonsai tree, on the backs of toy animals, a birdcage, and most strikingly in the form of a massive paper strand. It's surprisingly coherent, considering that most of the materials for the project are reclaimed.

The launch event continued to an after party at nearby Sketch, starting off in civilised fashion with Siouxsie and Bowie on the soundsystem, but descending into "a bit of a rave", with classic Chicago house sending the crowd crazy - a contrast from a world of homespun, hand-made wholesomeness, but everyone deserves a good party.
