The "what is art" debate has only been raging for mere centuries, now; but this week we had a 4chan user to thank for bringing said debate slap bang into the self-referential mode of 2014. "Artwork by Anonymous", above, was listed on eBay and "sold" for $90,900. Not too shabby, but the question remains – is it real? And is it even art? Our survey says: most Dazed readers think yes.

Be still, our beating hearts – Studio Ghibli (sort of) eased rising panic amongst fans this week amid rumours that the Japanese animation house would be closing its doors for good. Co-founder Soshio Suzuki said, "On what to do with Studio Ghibli's future, it is by no means impossible to keep producing (movies) forever. However, we will take a brief pause to consider where to go from here." Fingers crossed.

As the conflict in Gaza continues to shock the world, Brian Eno wrote and published an open letter calling for an end to the killing – as well as an end to America's support of Israel's "one-sided exercise in ethnic cleansing".
