Celebrate the countryside in this ode to rural Thailand

Urophong Raksasad's documentary about the rural joys of rice farming

See all Video >

You might not associate the rice fields with laughter, dancing and fireworks, but Uruphong Raksasad does. Born into a farming family in rural Thailand, the filmmaker has created a "rice trilogy" that seeks to honour the joy of Thai agriculture and document its celebrations and trials. In this extract from The Songs of Rice, the final film in his trilogy, Raksasad captures the food, flowers and revelry of the countryside. This Thai film takeover is curated by Cannes award-winning director Apichatpong Weerasethakul and his Southeast Asian cinema collective, Mosquito Film Distribution.
