In this extract from Letters from the South, a collection of six short films about the Chinese diaspora in Southeast Asia, Thai filmmaker Aditya Assarat describes a day in the life of Paula and her friends, who live in Thailand but have Chinese roots, and her infinitely cooler cousin Mumu, who was born in China. Assarat explores girlhood, adolescence and ethnicity – all through karaoke-fuelled, water balloon-soaked parties. This week's Thai film takeover is curated by Cannes award-winning director Apichatpong Weerasethakul and his Southeast Asian cinema collective, Mosquito Film Distribution.
